Private Piano Lessons

The piano is a great jump off point for the study of all other instruments. Here we teach students to learn to read notes in the Treble and Bass Clefs while also learning improvisation and songwriting. The piano is physically easy to play right out the gate, making it much quicker than any other instrument to create sound. This is great for those who need immediate satisfaction and reinforces desire to play more often.

The piano or keyboard is also great for understanding how music works, visually the piano gives everyone patterns that help students see music in a linear way. Meaning, kids and adults will see relationships and patterns much easier than any other instrument which is why college music students must have 2 years of piano under their belt before graduation. The most important part of piano is the use of both hands, which develops the left-right brain communication.

At Laurie Simmons Music Studio, we focus on fundamentals of good piano playing while introducing modern or popular music that students want to learn or currently listen to. This approach keeps students excited and earns them recognition from their peers. Students will learn sight-reading, theory, chords, transposition, and improvisation.

Piano Lessons For Kids

We love to help the youngest piano students get started with music, and ensure that they are doing things right from the very beginning.  Usually, we start with students who are beginning Kindergarten.  Knowing their letters and numbers is crucial to learning music, but also having the proper hand development is equally important.

Here at Laurie Simmons Music Studio, we strive to enrich the lives of our students by providing a challenging and comprehensive music experience.  Most students enroll in weekly 30-minute music.  We teach with excellence in mind as we guide each student to private lessons.  Our curriculum is primarily classically based, but we supplement core repertoire with jazz, pop, hymns, and folk become a well-rounded musician.

Has it always been your dream to play piano? You are never too old to learn!  Our classes will teach you familiar songs and a variety of styles in a relaxed and pressure-free environment.

Keyboards Vs Pianos

Historically acoustic pianos have been the instrument of choice for most lessons. But recent technology has lead to digital pianos that have sampled sound from the world’s finest concert grand pianos. These keyboards are fun and provide an opportunity for an intense and special learning experience, where students can use many voices built into these electronic keyboards, making them into any instrument, band or orchestra.  Some of these instruments they have never even heard of.

All students must have an acoustic piano or digital piano for home practice. The quality of your student’s home instrument plays a significant role in their potential for success. Acoustic pianos should be tuned at least once a year, and kept in working order. If you prefer a digital piano, please invest in a full-size keyboard (88 keys) with weighted, touch-sensitive keys and pedals.

How much does it cost?

Tuition is billed on a monthly basis.  You will pay for the number of classes there are for that month.  Payments should be remitted the first week of each month and will total the cost of the number of lessons to be taken during the month.  The current tuition rate is $30/ per half-hour  lesson.  A $10 late fee per week will be applied to any late payments

Attendance:

Missed Lessons:   Each student has a reserved lesson time and is responsible for that time.  Please note that tuition is due regardless of missed lessons.  Like private schools/college, tuition is not refunded due to absences.   The studio shall, however, assume financial responsibility should I (Laurie Simmons) become ill, be out of town, or cancel for any reason. The month’s regular fee will then be reduced by that particular amount.  Also, students are welcome to make-up their missed lesson in my home studio on Friday afternoons when available.

Snow/Weather Cancellations: If your school is canceled, your lesson is canceled. Holidays:  There will be no lessons taught on major holidays. The lesson schedule and billing for the month will reflect that.

The studio teaches year-round.   To guarantee/ reserve your lesson time, monthly tuition is due September-May regardless if the student chooses not to use the reserved lesson time.  In the Summer months (June/July/August), students are expected to take at least 6 lessons over the course of the Summer to reserve your spot for the Fall.  If a student drops out early or chooses not to take over the Summer, your spot will be given to the next available student on the waiting list.
